Herniated disc

The intervertebral disc (IVD) is a structure found in between vertebrae (bones that form the spine or vertebral column). The IVD provides much-needed shock-absorption for the spine. Under certain circumstances, the IVD may become herniated and form a bulge that protrudes outside the normal confines of the disc. In these cases the protruded disc may in fact place pressure on adjacent nerves and/or spinal cord, producing neurological symptoms such as shooting pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness.

In order to diagnose and treat a herniated disc, patients need the services of experienced and highly-trained professionals that understand the condition and can offer the best possible treatment for the patient. At CareFirst, you have access to a team of experts with collective decades of experience in pain management, anesthesia, and spinal surgery.
